Repairs & Fault Finding
One of the lovely things about an AGA is just how long they can last.
That also means we regularly come across appliances and installations that have evolved over many years.
Burners may have been changed. Controls may have been updated. Kitchens may have been altered around the cooker. Flue arrangements and oil supplies may date from a very different era.
That is where experience becomes particularly valuable.
We don't expect every AGA to look exactly like the one in the manual.
Understanding how these appliances work — and how real-world installations change over time — is an important part of effective fault finding.
AGAs are built very differently from most modern kitchen appliances.
Their heavy cast-iron construction means many have already been working away in kitchens for decades — and age alone doesn't necessarily mean an AGA has reached the end of its useful life.
A fault that initially feels serious may be repairable.
We'll give you a sensible assessment of the condition of the appliance and talk through your options.
If repair makes sense, we'll tell you.
If spending money on a repair wouldn't be sensible, we'll tell you that too.
We'd rather give you good advice than sell you work you don't need.
When something isn't quite right
Anyone who has lived with an AGA for a while tends to know how their own cooker behaves.
You know how warm the kitchen normally feels.
You know roughly how quickly the hotplate should recover.
And you usually notice when something just isn't right.
You don't need to wait until the appliance has stopped working completely before contacting us.
If your AGA isn't heating as well as usual, keeps losing temperature, sounds different, smells different or has become unreliable, we can investigate it.
Where possible, we'll diagnose the actual cause of the problem before recommending what needs to be repaired or replaced.
And we'll explain what we've found in plain English.
Before Your AGA Service or Repair
Traditional AGA cookers retain an enormous amount of heat.
For us to work safely on a gas or oil-fired cooker, it will normally need sufficient time to cool before the engineer arrives.
Please switch your AGA off the night before your booked service or repair appointment unless we have advised you otherwise.
If the cooker hasn't had enough time to cool, it may not be possible to safely carry out the work during the appointment.
We'll confirm any preparation needed when your visit is booked.
